New issue launch event - Tuesday May 8th at the Curzon Soho, London

To launch its latest issue, dedicated to independent, innovative and imaginative film and video worldwide, Vertigo tracks a visionary thread in the work of radically divergent artists and film-makers, and so an invitation is extended to spend a luminous hour in the company of a band of maverick seers. Andrew Kötting crosses the Channel, and several psychological thresholds, in ‘Offshore’, his latest mixed-media voyage, a sequel to his ‘Gallivant’, in the company of Iain Sinclair. Reach the other side and we find Edouard Sallier, winner of the animate! artists award 2006 for ‘Empire’, his glacial study of power and persuasion. Few come more committed than Surrealist magus Jan Svankmajer. We showcase a surprise short from the cellars of his unconscious. Meanwhile, fellow Czech Tereza Stehlíková wanders the city for its glimpsed and secret narratives in ‘Lisbon’, while the late greats, Stan Brakhage and Derek Jarman, remind us what giants of making and being they were.
